The BNSF Railway Finance Department provides innovative strategic solutions and world-class financial services to support BNSF's overall performance. Within the Finance Department, several specialized departments contribute to its overall mission: Controller, Revenue Management, Strategic Sourcing, Tax, Treasury, and Strategic Studies. Each department is vital in managing BNSF's financial health and strategic financial planning. These departments work collaboratively to secure BNSF's economic stability and support its growth and innovation within the railway industry.

 

This is a full-time position located in Fort Worth, TX with potential to work 50% remote in adherence with BNSF's Remote Work Flexibility Program.

Travel is minimal (less than 10%). 

Training for this position is on the job training.

 

Key responsibilities may include: 

Responsible for the accounting associated with BNSF’s retirement benefit plans and trust accounts in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Prepare benefit plan disclosures for BNSF’s 10-Q and 10-K.

Prepare and review Form 11-K’s, Benefit Plan financial statements and financial portions of Form 5500’s. 

Serve as a liaison among internal departments, various service partners, and external auditors to properly account for and audit benefit plans. 

Assist with quarterly communications and deliverables to BNSF’s parent company related to the plans.

Stay current on plan assumptions and the associated financial implications for reporting and monthly forecasting purposes.

Proactively identify, recommend, and implement process improvements. 

 

Daily work is conducted in a safety indoor office environment.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Able to work in the US without company sponsorship now AND in the future. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a finance-related field (preferably in an accounting department)
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Able to research accounting and reporting issues and propose conclusions on the proper accounting treatment

 

Prerferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Public accounting experience
  • Master’s degree in accounting or business administration
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with BNSF or the accounting department of another company
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain benefit plan related accounting implications to others
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to work independently
